I love this company. To beome a successful entrepreneur in manufacturing you must rely on “heroes” that will use your products. Once the buzz is out there you will have your hands full for months. Then, you’ll find another hero and repeat the process.

Twitter yourself a new job

Twitter.com is immensely popular and attract people from all businesses. Wall street Journal and Mashable both investigate the possibilities of finding a new career using Twitter. The main thesis in both articles is to build a personal brand and connect your Twitter account to your other digital presence.  This mainly applies to jobs in media, IT and PR industry but I believe there is a strong possibility for people looking for financial jobs or other analytical roles to be successful here.

Make your Twitter account into a living resume, that displays your positive work characteristics.

Mashable sums it up:

  • Put your job pitch in your Twitter bio (which is 160 characters)
  • Use a professional looking avatar
  • Tweet about your job search
  • Utilize your Twitter background
  • Include a link to an online CV or resume in your bio
  • Establish yourself as an expert

Finding a job should be fun!

There are very many things you should consider when searching for work. Which ties to choose, which shoes to waer, or why does not the jacket to be used. All things can be difficult to choose. You do not want to miss work because of the wrong tie.

Practice your skills by going to work interviews if you have more than one to choose from. Every interview will make you better at answering questions and it’s a lot easier handling the third interview, than the first.

Have fun!

6 todos to prepare your application

Find the right job

When there are so many applicants for each job, 100-150 applications are not unusual, you must meet the requirements of the ad to have any chance.

Do not send mass mailings

Do not send the same application to multiple jobs. Read the advertisement carefully and adapt your application for it. Focus on why you are looking for work and why you are suitable for this one

Write a clear Resume

Times like this, it is primarily your resume that’s interesting, especially when the initial selection is made. If your resume is not sufficiently clear, there is the risk that you miss that you have the experience required. Your past / current employment must be at the top of your resume. And write not only what your previous title, but also explain what your work tasks were.

Make your resume personal

To complete a resume form on the web is one thing but you should not use a standardized form when submitting your application. Sure it’s easy to find information in them, but all personality disappears making it boring and uninteresting.

Prepare intelligent questions

You should have prepared intelligent questions if you intend to call before submitting your application. Questions about how the group you should work in is built, or how an ordinary day in our looks, are examples of good questions.
To call only for the sake of a call, it is not recommended, especially not now when there are so many who are looking for.

Show enthusiasm

It is important that the candidate shows enthusiasm, both for work and in general. But it is to be wary of having too lofty plans. That being said it’s important to be rooted in reality and seem believable.

What are they REALLY asking for at the job interview

If you’ve made it as far as the job interview you are interesting to the company. It all comes down to personal chemistry and proving your worth.

Are you a person that will fit this company?
The company interviewer will probably ask questions about your person. The reason for this is to find out how you will fit the company and the role you applied for.
Common Questions are:  What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are your goals and how will you achieve them? What motivates you?

The interviewer will also want to verify that the things you write in your resume are correct and valuable. Make sure you can give a positive description from every experience.
Common questions are: What did you like most and least about your last job? Do you prefer working independently or as part of a team? What prevented you from advancing in your former positions?

Your personal plans for the future are relevant for the future employer. Some not so pleasant questions might come up. Make sure you are prepared and give the impression that this job is the most important to you now.
Common questions are: Are you willing to work weekends to get the job done? Why should we hire you? What other jobs have you applied for? What were you paid at your last job?

Your personality is sometimes measured by a written test, but sometimes it is weaved into the interview. It’s a way for the interviewer to get a more accurate picture of how you behave when working. It is measured against the company work culture.
Common questions are: Tell med about a time when a project went well. Tell med about a time when you showed dedication to your work. Have you ever missed a deadline or been close to missing it? What actions did to take to counter the failure?

Finally, don’t be a superman. Focus on the good stuff but admit that you have weaknesses and where you have failed if they ask you. It shows that you are honest, which is the most important quality to an employer.

Worst is yet to come for job market

CNN reports that the labor department will release its latest jobs report Friday. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com forecast that the unemployment rate rose to 7.9% in February and that 650,000 jobs were lost.

If the job loss forecasts for February turn out to be accurate, it would be the worst monthly drop since 1949… Even adjusting for the large growth in the nation’s job base in recent decades, this would be the biggest six-month job loss since 1975.

But even when the job losses end, the unemployment rate is likely rising. The unemployment rate only captures a portion of Americans unable to find full-time jobs. It doesn’t count people working at part-time jobs but cannot find a full-time job..

Tons of Sample resumes

I found a great site I want to share with you. freeresumesamples.org has tons of sample resumes for you to choose from. They have different resumes for diffrent jobs which is helpful.

All in all, writing a resume is like writing a love letter. You want the person on the other side to know how must you like them and what a god fit you are. It’s that simple. I’ll get back to this in a later post.

Strengthen your profile with examples

In my work as manager in different companies I’ve looked at numerous resumes to find the most suitable applicants. One very common mistake is not backing up your characteristics with examples from your previous work experience.

If you are “dedicated” or “a team player”, you need to show me how.
- “I’m a dedicated worker. At my previous employer I initiated a project to revise our personnel scheduling system, which led to more efficient work teams”.
- “I’m a team player because I found that collaborative problem solving was a must at my former employee where I worked with accounting”.

Many applicants make this mistake when writing their resume, but it is just as common in the job interview. If you can’t back up your characteristics with real life examples you are in trouble.

List three characteristics and strengthen yourself with one real example for each of them.
