Strengthen your profile with examples
In my work as manager in different companies I’ve looked at numerous resumes to find the most suitable applicants. One very common mistake is not backing up your characteristics with examples from your previous work experience.
If you are “dedicated” or “a team player”, you need to show me how.
- “I’m a dedicated worker. At my previous employer I initiated a project to revise our personnel scheduling system, which led to more efficient work teams”.
- “I’m a team player because I found that collaborative problem solving was a must at my former employee where I worked with accounting”.
Many applicants make this mistake when writing their resume, but it is just as common in the job interview. If you can’t back up your characteristics with real life examples you are in trouble.
List three characteristics and strengthen yourself with one real example for each of them.
